Every BYD owner’s manual PDF for the current model range is published by BYD itself — in English, free of charge, with no login and no registration. The problem is not availability. The problem is that no single official page collects them: the handbooks are scattered across regional websites, and the emergency response guides sit on a different page again. Below you will also find a plain statement of what these documents cover and what they deliberately leave out — because the gap between an owner’s handbook and a workshop service manual is exactly where independent repairers get caught out on their first Chinese EV job.
What BYD publishes free, and what it does not
BYD’s technical documentation splits into three tiers. Only two of them are public:

So a BYD service manual download at the workshop tier is not something you will find on an official public page. Any site offering one is redistributing leaked material, and the version risk is real: export-market cars and domestic-market cars are not always built to the same specification, and a manual for the wrong variant is worse than no manual at all. That is worth stating plainly, because it is the most common misunderstanding among independent workshops taking on their first BYD.

If you are working on an Atto 3 specifically, the model-year differences are worth checking before you order anything: the BYD Atto 3 handbook for the 2025 build separates items that earlier editions grouped together, and the fluid specifications changed with the switch in coolant chemistry.
Emergency response guides: keep these offline
If your workshop touches high-voltage systems at all, the BYD emergency response guide is the most valuable free document BYD publishes. Each guide opens with the location of the high-voltage components, then walks through the full isolation sequence — what to do first, what to do next, and which actions can trigger unexpected re-energisation.
You will not need it most days. The day you need it is the day you cannot afford to be searching for a download link, so save the relevant PDF to a workshop drive or tablet now.

What you can use these handbooks for — and what you cannot
An owner’s handbook is a usable document. It is not a service manual. Keeping that distinction clear saves a lot of rework:
- Directly usable: service intervals and itemised schedules, fluid specifications and capacities, fuse locations and ratings, warning lamp meanings, tyre and alignment data, towing and jump-starting procedure, high-voltage safety warnings.
- Not a source for torque values: handbooks list torque figures for a handful of items such as wheel bolts. Suspension, steering and drive-unit torque values are not in them. Tightening by feel is a routine source of comebacks.
- Not a procedure document: owner’s handbooks do not contain removal sequences, diagnostic routines or module programming. Treating one as a tutorial means inventing your own procedure.
When the handbook runs out
The realistic scenario: a BYD is in your bay, you have the official handbook, and you are stuck. A fault code clears and returns. A warning lamp stays on after a component swap. You need to confirm the order of two operations before you touch anything.
That is not a research problem — it is the boundary of what an owner’s handbook is designed to cover. The fastest way out is not more searching.
